Re: Can not Start Media Center in portrait mode?

I apologize for responding to a two week old post but I had something
that might.

I have a similar setup as you and have experienced the same issues.

The culprit is Windows multi-monitor support. You see their design has
some design flaws, such as assuming that the primary display will
always be the top leftmost in an imaginary square grid. Of course they
let you change the order anyway and some applications can adjust to it,
but the coordinate system gets a little confused in setups like this.
Now, I am no Windows innards wiz but...

Here is a test for you. Reset Media Center position so you get the same
problem as before. Now, instead of turning your portrait displays off,
just call the display properties and move the secondary display that
sits to the left of your primary to the right. Your displays will now
be ordered like this:

[primary: landscape] [secondary:potrait] [secondary:potrait]

Select ok and close properties. Now start Media Center, you will notice
it starts without any issues. By now you probably guessed what MC was
trying to do. Instead of starting on the primary monitor like it is
supposed to do, it was trying to start on the leftmost display. As MC
can't support portrait mode, it exits.

Another broken effect in our setups is the transparency of the taskbar
and sidebar. It is easier to see when you use different wallpapers for
each monitor. Now I am not sure what will happen on a three headed
setup, but on my dual display PC this is what happens. After setting
different wallpapers on each monitor you would expect the taskbar
and/or sidebar to show the wallpaper underneath via the snazzy
blur/transparent effect. WRONG. Resize them and you will notice that
you actually get the wallpaper from the opposite monitor. Change the
display ordering so that the primary is on the left and the problem is
fixed.

The Google sidebar has the same issues and this happens on any
videocard, Nvidia or ATI, that I have played around with.

Annoying, isn't it?

What really gets to me is that, even if it is a bug, it won't get fixed
as it would register as a minor bug... However it affects the way a lot
of applications behave and display.

Wish MS would fix this...
