Sorry I must have had a senior moment since I remembered it incorrectly.

Wndows XP SP2 does not upgrade MCE2004 to MCE2005. All it will do is
upgrade any older version of Media Center (i.e. MCE2002) to MCE2004.

If you are running XP SP2 then you are running MCE 2005 since XP SP2
upgraded any MCE2004 installations to MCE2005 automatically check for the
MCE release version within MCE.

JW: I am running XP SP2. The link that you sent for updates says that
it
only applies to MCE 2005. Do I need to somehow change from 2004 to 2005
(&,
if so, how)?

Afaik you have to upgrade to MCE2005 by installing XP SP2 and its
updates to
have more then one tuner recognized since MCE2004 only supported one
tuner.

Nigel: The utility was somewhat helpful. When I restarted Media
Center and
started the setup, it said that the tuner was not found so I
disconnected
my
cable from the tuner card that came with the computer and attached
and
installed a Hauppauge Win TV-PVR-USB2 MCE tuner (note that the tuner
says
that it is made for MCE 2005 and I have 2004). When I installed the
Hauppage
tuner, I received a message that the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 2 has not
passed
Logo testing - but continued with the installation. I also went to
the
Hauppauge web site and updated the drivers.
I'm still getting the black screen but am thinking that it has to be
a
tuner
problem. I'm wondering if the computer is trying to use the original
tuner
(which may have gone bad) and is not recognizing the Hauppauge? I
tried to
run the Salloway tuner conflict app but it doesn't work for MCE 2004.
Do you think that I need to update MCE 2004 to 2005 in order to get
the
external tuner card to work?
Any other suggestions? (I appreciate your help, I have been working
to
correct this problem since January!)

No - it won't record from the Guide anymore. Also, I plugged the

Possibly your TV capture card has failed although it's more likely
that
some
random MCE weirdness has caused the problem.
I suggest that you use Mark Salloway's MCE Configuration Reset
Utility to
return
MCE to a virgin state & then run through setup from scratch.

If you want to save scheduled recordings &/or series links then use
Ian
Dixon's
MCE backup utility first.
