Re: Connecting Xbox 360 and MCE 2005 roll up 2

Hi Wade,

Try to get back to square one.

I'm not familiar with your Error, but it may have something to do with
Windows Media Player 11. You could temporarily RollBack to WMP10 by
uninstalling WMP11 using Add/Remove Programs.

Step #1 in the following Link describes how to Remove existing Setup. (Don't
worry that the Article refers to Upgrading to Vista.)
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup/mcevista.htm

Do Step #2 (which you could probably do in your sleep by now).
Step #3 is Vista-specific. Instead, go to the XBox PCSetup website, which
nowadays seems to have an ActiveX Program to detect your Software. (Or
manually choose your Software Setup). Download and Save the Extender
Software to Disc, in case you need to try again. You can run the Software
locally.

The fact that your 360 is connecting to the Internet, does not always
indicate that your network is properly set up for the Media Center Extender
experience. Firewalls and Routers can cause additional MCX headaches.

For the time being, disable third-party Firewalls, but do use the Windows
Firewall. (There is a Particular problem with MacAfee which you may read
about by searching the MS Knowledge Base.)

I use Internet Connection Sharing and a Direct Ethernet Cable between 360
and Laptop, so I know nothing about Routers (especially the Wireless
Variety). But I find re-running Control Panel > Network Setup Wizard can fix
some of the obscure Misconfigurations, as well as sorting out Windows
Firewall.

I tried to attach several times using different codes, and the network
settings are fine, the 360 connects to the net just fine.
I think it has something to do with the PC set up.

Hi ALl, After I plug in the 8 digit security code, the PC then attempts
to
connect to the 360, I get this error in a pop up dialog box:

Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check
that
you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning
correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network
administrator.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

The network is fine, all other functions are good. It appears that I
have a
problem getting the extender account set up.

From the Xbox, check the network settings - verify that it is in fact
connected to your network.

I do not know how long the security code lasts, but go back to that page
on the Xbox for a new code. Leave that page active. Try connecting again.

Also, the full connection interface is better, IMO, than the smaller
version.
