They're not.
Home Premium does not, and for the foreseeable future will not support Remote Desktop as a Host. The Media Center product team decided, after doing the necessary research, that very few people actually use the caller id functionality in Media Center, so it was removed.
The MCX software for the original XBox will not work with Vista, period. There are no plans to go back and make it do so.

Hi,
I bought a win XP MCE 2005 in Dec 2006. It was eligible for vista home
premium 32-bit upgrade and I upgraded to vista. Since then I have rolled
back to win XP MCE 2005.
The following 2 features are a must for me to go back to vista again :
1) Remote Desktop connection(No. I am not going to pay and upgrade to
ultimate)
2) Called id display in the media center.
The following feature is optional but desirable in vista according to me :
1) Ability for media center extender for xbox to connect to vista(even if it
can only display video/TV in SD mode).
Hope MS is listening.....
