Re: XP Booting problem

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Dear Alan ,

I did a clean boot & then selective start with Non-Microsoft drivers ticked
off. Now , it is not looking for svchost.exe but it still looks for
eksplorasi.exe. Also there is a warning msg windows defender fail to
initialize error : 0x800106ba. I am still able to use the laptop ONLY with
explorer. when i click on "my computer" icon & then C: or E: ( HDD partioned
equally ) , it gives error message " Windows cannot find copy.exe file. This
problem still persists.
Thanks anyway for your help. Meanwhile Acer & Microsoft gave up on this
problem. What-ever inputs you can give is still useful.

Regards

I can't understand why Windows is looking for eksplorasi.exe.... eksplorasi
is bad,bad,bad!

Try a Clean Boot and Selective Startups to see if you can find out, by a
process of elimination, what is calling eksplorasi.exe. See "How to
configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state", at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/en-us
and, "How to troubleshoot by using the System Configuration utility in
Windows XP", at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560/en-us
..... there is another article that describes the "Process of Elimination",
but I can't locate it at the moment. It is a tedious process of Unchecking
and Rechecking StartUp Items, Processes, etc and rebooting and rebooting....

It seems that your Anti-Virus Program did not perform a thorough job of
cleaning your system. You might try another such as the free AVG, or free
Online "Live" Scanners at Trend Micro and Symantec.

Searching the Web for the Trojan by Name may also turn up some information
on reputable Ant-Virus WebSites.

HijackThis is another name that comes to mind for analysis.

I'm guessing, but might your Anti-Virus Program have somehow Quarantined
your EMail Files and/or Archives?

BTW, you should create a User other than Administrator. Viruses find
"Administrator" an easy target.

Dear Alan ,

Thanks for your reply.
sfc /scannow did run the windows file protection test. Didn't give any
warning or error msgs & the dialog display closed down. The problem
remains as it was. Any more remedies?

Hi Govindarajan,

To start, you could try System File Checker. See in your "Help and
Support"
for more info.

Run "sfc /scannow" (without quotes, and note the space between "sfc" and
"/")

BTW, that "eksplorasi.exe" looks very very suspicious!

Acer 4001LCi laptop bundled with Windows XP / SP2 running with Windows
Firewall , Windows Defender & eScan always turned ON. Till yesterday ,
the
Laptop was working normal. Today when i booted the email & system were
too
slow. In task manager , with no process running , cpu usage was 100%.
Hence
i ran eScan - which deleted trojan virus & some more files. After this
,
when
i re-booted , the following warning messages came up.

1. Windows cannot find " C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe &
C:\WINDOWS\eksplorasi.exe.

2. Further when i click on "my computer" icon & then C: or E: ( HDD
partioned equally ) , it gives error message " Windows cannot find
copy.exe
file. Hence i can only

access either C: or E: only through Windows Explorer.

3. In MS Outlook , earlier i used to do archive \ back-ups of .pst
files
with path C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\

outlook. Now this path is no more valid after C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator.

Please suggest possible remedies.
