However, choose a letter that is free on all the computers you plan
to plug it into.

Assign a drive letter to the drive when it is connected to the
desktop.
Go to the desktop right-click on My Computer and select "Manage"
from the menu.
The "Computer Management" console will appear. Look under the
"Storage" tree and choose "Disk Management". Right click on your
removable drive and select "Change Driver Letter and Paths" Pick
a drive letter and when the drive is insalled on that computer it
will always use that drive letter.

I have a removable hard drive that when I'm at home its hooked up
to my desktop. But when I go out on the raod, I take it with me.
I also have a home network so I share that drive so I can access
it when I'm on my laptop. The only problem with that is that
everytime I plug the hard drive in my desktop, it assigns it a
new drive letter, so my laptop can't find the drive.
Is there anyway I would be able to assign one letter to that
drive so no
matter when I plug it in it is assigned that letter?
-Thanks
