I did the network wizard on both my laptop and my desktop, so now that I"m
on
my laptop, how do I access the files on my desktop? Would I just
automatically see them? If so, maybe the wizard was not installed
correctly.

You must share the resources.
Right click on a drive or a folder, click Sharing and Security. You will see
a warning about the danger of sharing files on the network, just click the
link, and set the options for access to that drive or folder.
If you share the Drive, you also share all the folders on that drive.
To see the files on desktop computer you must share the files on that
computer.
