Make sure that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is set to
Manual or Automatic and that the service is running.
Start > Run > services.msc > OK
Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) > Double click on it.
Under Startup type set to Manual or Automatic > Apply.
Click the Start button to start the service > When started click OK.
