Re: Windows XP Will Not Boot (Fatal System Error)

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I forgot to note that I can use Knoppix to edit the files on my Windows
partition, as well as the recovery console, if need be.

Well, from what I've been researching recently,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156669 seems to cover my problem, although I
don't have it working yet. I don't think I can install a parallel
installation of Windows onto another partition because I have an OEM, which
may cause me to run into serial issues.

Hi Remy,

It would be handy to know what the Status Code 0xc0000005 indicates. I can't
find anything.

Here's something you haven't tried yet.....

Do you think you could manage a parallel installation of Windows onto a
separate drive or partition. If so, boot into the new OS, find the original
systemroot folder and reset its Security to grant the SYSTEM account full
control of the folder and subfolders.

Whenever I try to start Windows, I get the following error:

Stop: c00021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a
status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut
down.

I have tried turning off automatic restart on system errors, debug mode,
and
using the last working configuration, and none of them worked.

After this, I researched the problem, and have read that registry hives
not
matching up may cause the problem, so I restored a previous registry that
had
worked and attempted to boot again, with no luck. I have also read that
DEP
may cause the problem, so I tried editing the /noexecute parameter in
boot.ini by booting Knoppix, which was originally optin, to alwayson and
alwaysoff. Neither of these worked, so I set it back to optin. I have also
read that Symantec Antivirus, which I use, may cause this problem as well,
however I ruled this one out because I have been sucessfully using it for
around a month. Defective memory may also cause this, but I ruled this one
out aswell because when I booted Knoppix, I had no errors. The final
reason I
have read that may cause this is spyware\adware, so I booted in safemode,
which ran without any problems, and ran a full system scan with Symantec
Anti-Virus, which returned no problems.

At this point, I am completely stumped, so I ran a StartupList.exe scan,
which was made by Soperman Enterprises Ltd., I have posted the log at
http://pastebin.ca/429126, since it is 123 kb.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am completely out of ideas as to why
my
computer is doing this.
