Thanks again, Gino. I haven't slept a wink... worrying about my suggestion.
It was bad! Old Man, pay attention to Gino!
The first parameter of the Stop Error would indicate that some programmer
has failed to remove a Breakpoint that had been hard-coded during Debugging
of the System. See:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795746.aspx
However, I find that explanation hard to believe.
A harmless suggestion for The Old Man would be to check for a BIOS update
from the HP Website. Here is a link to HP a1650e, but I can't see a specific
reference to XP Media Center Edition.

With a hint that the OP is a newbie, I'd have to add this: do not unplug
the video card with power on. In fact, it is best to unplug the computer
form the AC power as well, since computers do not normally shut completely
down. Like other electronic gear, they keep a small low-power circuit
running to respond to external stimuli, such as (for the TV) a remote
control or (for the computer) a call on the network.

Hi "Old Man",
I'm so sorry that this is your first experience with computers. You have
what is colloquially called a "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD). It may
happen just the once, it may happen all the time or it may happen
intermittently. Sometimes the "Stop Error" could be different. If you try
to troubleshoot it, you could be pointed in hundreds of different
directions from highly technical Knowledge-Base Articles to Increasing
your Computer's Wattage.... none of which will definitely solve the
problem.
If you are keen to spend some time, here's one suggestion (which could be
your very first wild-goose chase). Try unplugging and re-plugging your
video adaptor card.
Otherwise, my best advice is to return the computer for a full refund,
and consider buying a different Brand of Computer. To prove that you have
experienced a BSOD, there will be a minidump file in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump.
(The file is unreadable without specialised applications.) You should
also have a "Save Dump" Event in your Event Viewer - System log.
