Hi eric,
Are you sure your last suggestion is safe? Last time I tried something like
this, I lost my DVD Drive completely, and when I tried to re-enable the
"Sonic CD and DVD Burning", there was a request to install a file ...
(authorscript ?)... which cannot be accessed from a Recovery Disc. A total
OS Reinstallation was the only solution.
If you have OEM Discs you are probably safe.

I assume you have the Video DVD option showin in point 6 here -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/using/DVD/burntvtodvd.mspx
?
If not, google for sonicencoders.msi and install it.
Are you saying you used to be able to burn from within MCE and now you
can't
(but you still can outside MCE)?
If so, you could try reinstalling the sonic burn engine (different from
sonicencoders.msi and this comes standard with all MCE installations). To
do
this, goto Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove windows components, then
unselect "Sonic DVD and CD Burning", ok out, then repeat but this time
select it.
Good luck!

How can I burn anything from my MCE? I keep getting the message, Ensure
that
you have a CD/DVD Recorder installed. I do have a DVD burner, that works
outside the Media Center. I've had this problem since Christmas, and
Gateway,
and Best Buy can NOT help me.
