I think Microsoft DOES NOT care. The hose up caused by SP2 vis a vis 1394 has
not been addressed. The Hotfix does not work on machines that had SP2
pre-installed. The third party manufacturers meet the 1394 standard. XP-SP2
DOES NOT.

Again, you should be sending your missives to other manufacturers, I'm sure
they have, in some cases, cross developed their product for Mac OSX or
Linux, so why not tweak it for MCE?

To answer your questions, over half that I listed I use. They all worked
fine
with XP. It wasn't until I replaced my other machine with this new one

with Media Center Edition 2005 that I have started to experience all of
this.
Apparently it has something to do with the architecture of Media Center

Look. I knew I was going to get some defensive toned replies. I asked if
anyone knew of a fix. I asked if anyone knew if MS had any intention of
addressing this or if what strictly up to these 3rd parties. I asked about
what if I upgrade to Vista. Neither you nor Tom Scales nor Michael Brown
seem to be able to provide any answers; so why respond?

The underlying OS for MCE is XP Pro, there are very few reasons why
something that runs on Pro, won't run on MCE other than laziness on the
part
of the 3rd party SW/HW companies. Saying it isn't compatible with MCE is
really saying, "We didn't feel like testing and certifying it for this
other
OS, so we'll just say it isn't compatible".

I am extremely disappointed with the number of applications
and hardware used in professional audio that are incompatable with what
is touted as a Media Edition.

Here's the short list (a number of which I use regularly):
Digidesign Pro Tools (all versions).
. All M-Audio software and hardware.
. All Steinberg software.
. Cakewalk SONAR (all versions).
. The iLok.
. Syncrosoft USB dongles.
. Focusrite interfaces.
. Lexicon Omega/Alpha/Lambda.
. Edirol interfaces.
. Alesis USB and Firewire mixers.
. All MOTU hardware and software.
. All E-MU hardware and software.
. Native Instruments software.
. Waves software.
. Mackie Spike. Tracktion has been known to work, but is not
guaranteed.
. Novation X-Station series.
. TC Eletric PowerCore series.
. Universal Audio UAD-1 cards.
. All RME hardware.
. All PreSonus hardware.
. All TASCAM software and hardware.
. Blue Snowball and Samson C01 USB Microphones.

I have learned my lesson; but have a few questions for you:
1. I'm sure that you folks are well aware of this. Does Microsoft care
at all; or do you people consider this to be the problem of the
manufacturers of these products?
2. Is there a "fix" available for any of the ones I've listed?
3. Are there any plans to make "Media Edition" loaded PCs functional
for creating Media if using the Media Creating Industry's more popular
equipment?
4. What about Vista? I bought this XP Media Center loaded PC a month
ago 12/06; and qualify for a free upgrade to Vista Premium. If I
perform
the
upgrade, will that resolve the compatibility issues with using the
above
listed items?
