RE: Nero 7 and Media Center Receiver Service

Sorry, I assumed WinTV was part of the Intervideo stable, as in WinDVD,
WinPVR, etc. Should have read your post more carefully. It is, of course, the
Hauppauge App.

Hi terry,

You mentioned WinTV. It sounds like you have at least three Apps for
watching TV. You might also have an Hauppauge App as well. Could this be too
many?

Your Manufacturer would have provided you with a Video Decoder included with
an App from the likes of Intervideo (WinDVD), nVidia (PureVideo), and a few
select others. That is all you basically need to use Media Center.

Reinstalling the TV Tuner shouldn't be too much of a drama. The installation
method (either run from an installer exe, or let the Hardware Wizard find the
Driver) depends on the Manufacturer. I have just installed the latest, and
all I needed to do afterwards was a re-Tune of the TV Signal. I was surprised
that even the Guide listings were untouched. But, then again, I only have
Media Center for Live TV.

Oh, that might be a headache, but I will try. My TV tuner is a Hauppauge
WinTV PVR USB 2 and boy, have I had troubles with it. My first one became
defective so I had to ship it back to New York. They sent me a new one and
when I installed it, my system crashed. I finally got everything back up and
when I used the installation disc for WinTV - a few other things went wrong.
Anyway, short story long, I downloaded the driver from Hauppauge site and did
finally get TV again. However, I'm having lots of trouble capturing video
thru it. Will see what happens.
Thanks, I'll be back after a while!

Terry,

Try reinstalling your TV Tuner Driver following the Manufacturer's
instructions. Firstly check for the latest Driver on the Manufacturer's
website. You may need to re-Tune your TV Signal.

I would have thought that Nero 7 is fully compatible with MCE, because it
does list certain MCE Plug-Ins.

If you find a solution (or further problems), let us know, because Nero 7 is
on my shopping list. Thanks.

Thanks AllanF. The problem is that as soon as I restart my pc, the same
thing happens. I'm wondering if there is somewhere in start-up that I can
select only Media Center? I can't seem to find anything in Nero to disable
it. (Although I've had a pc for 5 or 6 years I'm still not too literate
about the workings of it!!) Does anyone else out there use Nero 7 and have
the same problem?
PS - I'm really glad I found this site - lots of good information, tho alot
of terms I don't understand - big learning process!!
Thanks all.

Hi terry,

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. A number of Applications that
allow TV-Viewing in Windows seem to "steal" exclusive use of the TV Tuner,
and don't give it back until the computer is restarted!

I don't have Nero, and I haven't seen your particular Error Message. My
experience was with the App that came with my TV Tuner. After running this
App, Media Center would unexpectedly display "Tuner not Found".

This problem seems to be exteremely under-documented. I found that the one
solution is to not run these Apps, and to watch TV only in Media Center.

Hi: I just downloaded & installed Nero 7 (had Nero 6 OEM) and since then I
keep getting an error: "Media Center Receiver Service has caused an error &
must close". Of course, then MC can't record my TV programs, etc. I believe
Nero has taken over the receiver service but I can't find any way to change
it back to MC. Hope someone can help. (PS I'm researching this from my work
computer and not the one with the problem so I'm having to use my bad
memory!!)
Thanks.
