What was your problem? hard drive also? This is the first embeded windows program I have ever used. It was crazy how last week it would'nt seem to load up, and then poof, nada.

They said they "repaired the motherboard", but didn't tell me any details at all...

Whatever, it did have bad effects on the hard drive. The drive turned out to be *physically* fine, but whatever the problem was, it allowed corrupt data to be written. It was a job to get it all going later, requiring hard-drive recovery software.

That's why I'm at this point willing to give up on this box in the face of new apparent HW problems beginning to show up.

and then I always was geting a different error, or that dumb cursor w/black screen. At first I thought it was "stuck" ,booting, but BIOS were fine and my Pc dr+
said all is fine, now I can't even load that. I put in the floppy and I get regular function, except the use of my OS. still can't find it. How in the world does HP think the recovery disks will help a mechanical issue-hard disk? Does the OS and HDD connect in some way then? I guess if I were brave i'd change it out myself ,but I am not even going to risk it. I would get one that was meant for a obsolete model I bet.

Well, my problem also created varied errors - it took me a while to realize the computer itself was sick.

What I have is a Shuttle XPS FN25 small form factor computer, bought as a bare bones box. This meant that when I returned it for repair, I had to pull the CPU, memory, video card, and drives. Obviously, if the problem had been in one of those components, they wouldn't have found it - but I was lucky.

I suspect they knew of a problem with some (or all?) of those motherboards, so that it was a safe plan to ask me to RMA it.

I'm not concerned about double posts, but about wild grammar, punctuation, and spelling. All that makes it a challenge to figure out your question, IMHO.

Wal-Mart's reciept says " Computers may be returned for refund or exchange with reciept WITHIN 15 days" That stinks I bought it the 16 of January. I am gonna try geeksquads forum, any others I should try? I have nothing to lose. ~! computer isn't running hot anymore now. I hope thats a good sign. I really need a break! Talk about bad luck. I really like this system too ! Never Fails. In the long run it'll work out ok, has too. I wouldn't worry about buying one at Wal-Mart! I think this is a faulty drive, and thats it. I am re-thinking the manfacturer now. Does Dell or gateway have any good deals? I wouldn't mind an I-*MAC I want a green one. A

Well, then, go to Apple, buy the computer, then - tada! - go to Walmart and buy a spray can of green paint. Problem solved :-)

I'm also thinking of crossing to the dark side for a few reasons, one of which is that this computer is getting unstable again. The warranty expired a week ago, I think :-)

It was already fixed once under warranty, but the problem seems to be returning after about 8 months of normality...

But enough about me :-)
