IR inconsistencies in MC2005

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I am a NOOB to MC2005. After selecting the program to record in the
Guide, I turn on my cable box. I have the IR transmitter (connected
to my Hauppauge 150 tuner card) pointed directly at the IR receiver of
my cable box. Upon return to check on the recording status, I find
that the cable box is set to "off". naturally, I recorded 3.5 hours
of blank Grammys tonight. Do I need to keep the cable box to "off"
and let windows switch it on? Is there a patch to control this
feature?

Please help.

Denis

BTW, I got the MCE2005 rollup update, and don't know whether it
addresses this issue?
