Hi Justice Gustine:
Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try as soon as US Robotics has
an approved driver for Vista. I have their latest driver for my modem model
but their website lists it for XP but not Vista. An inquiry to US Robotics
support brought a response that "with Vista coming out soon, they are
working very hard to get a Vista driver ready and to watch around the middle
of February for the driver!" I thot about trying the XP driver since the
Vista Update Advisor I ran before my clean install didn't list the modem as
being any problem but I'm concerned I'll just mess up Vista more LOL.
Thanks again for pointing out that the "simple communication controller" is
the modem. Now I have to figure out what the second one is...........all the
rest of my pci devices installed fine!

Hi all:
I recently installed Vista Home Premium "full" version in my Media Center
pc in a "multi-boot" set-up with MCE2005 O.S. Both operating systems are
located on a pair of SATA 2 drives in a RAID 0 configuration. The RAID 0
configuration has 3 partitions. MCE2005 is installed in the first partition
and the second & third partitions were pre-formatted when the RAID 0 volume
was set up before installing MCE2005. I installed the Vista O.S. on the 2nd
prepared partition and it went very well. Vista recognized almost all my
devices and installed the necessary drivers automatically. It also recognized
the 5 other non-raid drives with my stored media. I remain with two problems
I can't seem to figure out. My main problem is that the US Robotics modem is
not recognized........in the device manager I have no listing for modems even
though the same modem already in the pc worked fine with MCE2005 and the
Vista Upgrade advisor said it would work ok. In the device manager I do show
under "other devices" 2 entries called: "PCI simple communication controller"
with a yellow "bang" in front of each entry with an exclamation point. I
removed the modem, re-booted and one of the two "PCI simple communication
controller" entries was gone. The other is still there but I have no other
PCI devices that aren't working. I put the modem card back in and hoped
Vista would recognize a new device being added but got the same Device
Manager result. I am wondering if maybe Vista installed drivers for the
modem during the O.S. install that aren't compatible with the device and
that's why it isn't showing up? If so..........how will I install the
correct modem drivers when I find them if the modem isn't showing up in the
Device manager to "update" the drivers?
Sorry to be so wordy, but thot maybe the information would be needed to
help find a solution. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

PCI simple communication controller should be the modem. I had the
same thing.
I installed Ultimate - it did not pick up my modem either (go ahead,
laugh, Vista).
I put in the driver disk, canceled any install and opened the device
mangler, right click in the PCI simple communication controller, chose
to update driver, browsed to the XP folder on the drivers CD and let
it go at it.
A failure would be a notice that the item could not be installed.
Success would be an install.
I got the latter. Funny thing is that under XP it would show as a
generic 56K modem. In Vista it calls it what it is - Creative Modem
Blaster.
