Hi Tranquility,
If you create a NEW power user or user account, are you able to pin start
menu items then? If you can try this, it will help us narrow down if it is a
registry problem with that user account (permissions, etc) or if there is
some software on your PC that is causing this.
From personal experience, Norton products have given me nothing but trouble.Perhaps another step you could take, before completly wiping your system, is
to uninstall these products temporarily, and see if it makes any difference.
I've seen norton cause some weird problems in the past.

When I try to pin an application to start menu it works fine until I log off..
When I log back on it is gone and the icons have reverted back to Internet
Explorer and Outlook only without the icon for the application that I pinned
to the menu.
Since this is a Power User Account, I should be able to do this. I must
have some type of error. I am running Norton Internet Security and Norton
System Works so there may be some type of error there as well.
I guess I will have to try another reformatt and reinstall from my Gateway
system disks. Bad thing is I have to redownload all updates on 56k
connection which takes me days.

If you start an application, the icon is suppose to appear in the start menu,
which it does for easy access the next time you start it. When I log off and
log back on, the application icons for the last applciations I ran no longer
appear in the menu. Only the original icons for media center, media player
etc appear--the same icons that appeared when I first setup the Power User
Account.
I am going to try to link an icon to the top part of the start up menu and
then log off and see if it maintains it when I log on and will post back.

Hi Tranquility,
Can you explain what you mean by 'the icons reset to their original
defaults. What icons are you referring to?

I am running MCE 2005 SP2 with all critical updates except IE7. I recently
reinstalled everything on my system. I have 1 Admin account and 2 Power User
Accounts. The icons in the Power User Accounts will not update. If I start
a program it appears on the start menu, as soon as a log off and log back on,
the icons on start menu have been reset to the original defaults. I have
checked for virus and spyware and everything is clean. I am not using fast
user switching. Has anyone else had this problem?
