Re: How to repair corrupted files w/o Windows XP disk?

I just found an off-Microsoft web site that gave a better explanation of the
Registry settings. I just made the registry changes, but I'm recording the
Super Bowl and don't want to reboot now!

PSS
1. Changing the SourcePath setting to the Recovery partition doesn't work
because HP encrypted their files.
2. Making CDs of the Recovery files doesn't work because SFC is looking for
a WINDOWS disk, not a proprietary HP disk.
3. I searched through the hidden partition, found the I386 folder, copied it
to my C:\ and de-crypted the files. Set the SourcePath settings to C:\ in two
separate Registry entries (one under Windows NT, believe it or not!)

I'll let you know if it works when the game is over.

No, unfortunately.

Doesn't solve his problem though. He wants a non-destructive solution.
Doesn't HP offer real XP disks?

If you have HP XP Media Center Edition,

You have to create 3 recovery disks from Start, All Programs, PC Help &
Tools.
Click - HP PC Recovery CD-DVD Creator

This will give you a complete restore to factory defaults.

Good Luck,
Jerry

I ran System File Checker and confirmed I've got some corrupted system
files.
However, SFC asks for my Windows XP Professional CD #2, which I don't
have.
My PC came with MCE installed. It does have a hidden partition for
system
recovery.

I searched through all the knowledge bases I can think of, but have not
found a way to fix my system problem without reloading XP MCE.

1. Can I fix the files without reloading Windows?
2. If I reload Windows, how can I do it without losing all my programs.
Yes,
I can reload them too, but that's such a pain.
