Sorry. I hit enter by accident on previous post. I know this has been
addressed before but when I first bought my computer I didn't have any
problems. Now whenever I insert any type of CD I get the message media
detection in progress and it hangs. Since it was working fine before I know
that my computer is not a "lemon". Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?
Thanks for any solutions

hi 2kat, have you flashed the firmware for your CD/DVD player? If not
tryhttp://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.phpandlocate the firmware for your
player.

Thanks for your help but do you think you could explain what you mean. Sorry but I'm not familiar with what you are saying. I have 2 disk drives that came with the computer. One is a LightScribe DVD Writer/CD Burner and the other is a DVD-ROM. My system info just lists them as standard.

Thanks again for you help (and patience?).

hi 2kat, the firmware is a small program which is on a chip in your
DVD. Occasionally this program needs to be updated. If you click START-
CONTROL PANEL-SYSTEM then click the 'hardware' tab. This will then
show a page called Device Manager and on this page you can see a
listing for CD/DVD players. Click on that and you will see the precise
name for your DVD player. Follow the link http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
and locate the firmware for your DVD player and follow the
instructions provided by the website. Flash your firmware and see if
it solves your problem.

Thanks. What I got for manufacturer is TSST corp CD/DVDW TS - H552L. I couldn't find anything similar on the web page you gave me. So now what??

Big thanks

hi TSST= Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology. I was just thinking... I
may have jumped the gun here. Have you checked/ swapped the leads
going into the player? Maybe you could try it in another computer.
Have you used a CD/DVD lens cleaner disc?
go to this site to and download the winenquiry program
http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/LiveUpdate/FWvercheck/FWvercheck.asp. It
will tell you the information pertaining to your drive.
