What I noticed lately about MCE 2005 and now apparently even vista is all the crashes that are happening, even while playing some games like civ 4. I never had any crashes when I was just using XP Pro. Along with copy protection that also causes me some headaches, I'm beginning to lean towards reinstalling XP Pro and just using alternate software such as Beyond TV( though it doesn't have a good TV scheduler like MCE), or just using MSI's PVR software which is reliable, thought he picture quality isn't as good as ATI's software or MCE. Or hopefully someone will buy vista basic and use some alternate PVR software and tell us what its like. I won't be using vista for at least another year(unless it turns out to be a total lemon)

You can see my rants from earlier today for other comments.

I got my two MCE 2005 systems working together again by reinstalling (recovery disks) from scratch, and when installing the patches I DIDN'T install any DRM patches, MediaConnect 2.0, IE 7, or Mediaplayer 11.

If you hide the Mediaplayer 11 update, when you next run 10 it will ask if you want an available update. Answer no, because it will try to install 11 as the update, which appears to load all the DRM and MediaConnect junk.

I don't have a XBOX or any other streaming stuff, but Mediaconnect got loaded with the 11 update when I answered yes to an update. I haven't had any problems yet, but when I get time, I'll do another recovery and reinstall my software again to get rid of it and the DRM junk that came with it.

They really, really, really want you to install all the DRM and copy stuff so bad they hide it in other software. IE 7 has been causing problems too, and I bet it also has some more DRM code that replaces existing code, like previous postings on Movie Maker breaking after IE7 was installed! I don't know if MCE or Vista is the testing ground for DRM software, or if both are...
