Sorry. I hit enter by accident on previous post. I know this has been
addressed before but when I first bought my computer I didn't have any
problems. Now whenever I insert any type of CD I get the message media
detection in progress and it hangs. Since it was working fine before I know
that my computer is not a "lemon". Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?
Thanks for any solutions

hi 2kat, have you flashed the firmware for your CD/DVD player? If not
tryhttp://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.phpand locate the firmware for your
player.
Thanks for your help but do you think you could explain what you mean. Sorry but I'm not familiar with what you are saying. I have 2 disk drives that came with the computer. One is a LightScribe DVD Writer/CD Burner and the other is a DVD-ROM. My system info just lists them as standard.
Thanks again for you help (and patience?).

hi 2kat, the firmware is a small program which is on a chip in your
DVD. Occasionally this program needs to be updated. If you click START-
CONTROL PANEL-SYSTEM then click the 'hardware' tab. This will then
show a page called Device Manager and on this page you can see a
listing for CD/DVD players. Click on that and you will see the precise
name for your DVD player. Follow the link http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
and locate the firmware for your DVD player and follow the
instructions provided by the website. Flash your firmware and see if
it solves your problem.
