No only some video cards use DVI-I connectors that have both the DVI
interface and the VGA interface dongle available. You might Google for
Dual DVI connectors as these are the cards most likely to have this
capability.
When video interfaces were first invented for computers to replace teletypes
or typewriters the character fonts were set at 8 pixels wide by 12 pixels
high so all PC text formats are a multiple of this. This is why the firsl
displays which could display 40 80 column punched card images had a
resolution of 640x480.

Thanks Tom for your reply!
Samsung informs that HDMI input on its 26" TVs cannot be used for a PC,
and
the HDMI input does not accept 1366x768 resolution through it.
I'm going to buy a video card with two outputs. Does every video card DVI
output have VGA embedded? Or, Is this adapter a digital to analog
converter?
Best regards,
Dima

My LG is the 42" LCD.
As for VGA, your video card should have come with an adapter to let a VGA
monitor connect to the DVI connector. DVI has VGA embedded.
The Samsung has HDMI though. With a DVI to HDMI cable you can connect
DVI
to the Samsung.

Thanks Tom Scales for your experience!
What is a model of your troublesome LG?
Samsungs can not input from a computer DVI output, do they?
I can't find a card with two d-subs, but d-sub and DVI only. My
computer
monitor has a d-sub only. DVI is left for a TV.

I've had nothing but trouble getting my LG to work properly with VGA
or
DVI.
My Samsungs, on the other hand, have been flawless. Plug it in and it
works.
I highly recommend Samsung

I have seen 26LX1D and its manual. 26LX1D is diffenent than 26LX1R
or
26LX2R. "Zoom + / - function is not available in DVI PC mode." is
written
in
26LX1R and 26LX2R manuals (http://gb.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp).
There
is
no "Cinema Zoom" in 26LX1R and 26LX2R manuals.
26LX1R and 26LX2R resolution is 1366x768. Why does LG recommend
1360x768
computer resolution, not 1366x768 then? Does not 26LX2R stretch 1360
vertical
lines to 1366, use the 6 vertical lines?
Best regards,
Dima

i found the users manual for the 26LX1D which is apparently the
version
sold
in the US and yes it has a function called Cinema Zoom which allows
you
to
adjuste the size of the screen image. I did not check any other LG
models.

Dear JW!
A LG representative said that LG 26LX1R and 26LX1R
(http://gb.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp) can be used as a monitor
from
DVI
computer output without the overscan?
Is this true?

The Panasonic "specialist " has absolutely no idea what he
talking
about.
Of course Overscan involve scaling since it "zooms in" or
upscales
the
video
it receives which is of course why small text fonts in PC
applications
are
fussy since every 20 line or 20 pixel in a row is "invented" by
5%
percent
upscaling which is very common.

Thanks JW for your helpful reply!
The d-sub is used by my computer monitor already. The DVI is
left
free.
I
would like to use it to display mpeg 4 movies from my computer
on
the
TV.
Does overscan includes scaling, which reduces small text
readability?
A Panasonic specialist said that HDTV 1080i resolution is the
same
as
d-sub
1366*768, and that I can output 1366*768 resolution from DVI
compurer
output
to HDTV (1080i capable) TV input, and the scaling will not
happen.
Is
this
true?
Best regards,
Dima

There is no technical reason that a PC cannot be used with an
HDMI/DVI
interface since the HDTV has no idea where the video is
coming
from,
There
are however two problem first the number of resolutions
receivable
by
an
HDTV over HDMI/DVI is limited and secondly almost all HDTVs
overscan
their
HDMI/DVI input since they assume it is TV video.
You can either get a unit which also has a VGA interface
since
they
do
not
overscan the VGA input since they assume it is from a PC. You
will
not
suffer any degradation in resolution using VGA and you may
not
even
notice a
possible slight degradation in video color quality.
I know of not flat panel from the vendors you listed that
provide a
way
not
to overscan their HDMI/DVI inputs. AFAIK then Westinghouse
family
of
HD
monitors are the only flat panels that give you control of
overscanning.

Hello!
What Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp or any other 26"
flat
pannel
TV
could be used as a monitor with a DVI output of a computer
with
the
same resolution as the native resolution of the TV matrix?
Should
the
computer resolution be the same as the native resolution of
the
TV
matrix for a small text being shown clear?
All 26" flat pannel TV manuals with I read indicate that
TV's
DVI
or
HDMI input cannot be used with a computer and a computer
video
resolution could not be the same as the native resolution
of
the
TV
matrix, therefore a scaling is required. The scaling makes
small
text
unclear.

Dima
