The IP addresses are:
PC: 192.168.0.136
Xbox: 192.168.0.2
Thanks

Hey Todd
Is that my gateway address or actual IP address?
Not sure, but is it safe to give my IP address online? Not 100% on that
sort of stuff.
Thanks

Well I have a Netgear DG834G, so the modem/router is connected to the
pc.
I checked yesterday and the router has ticked act as a DHCP server.
The weird thing is, that connecting directly to the router via cable
works instantly but it always has problems connecting via wireless
settings. Its driving me up the wall.
Thanks for your suggestion Dana.
Dana Cline - MVP wrote:
Good question...I guess it depends on the cabling. Your cable/dsl
modem
should connect to the WAN port on your router. All PCs (and the 360)
should
connect to the LAN ports (you may have 4 of them, depending on the
router).
That will force all the PCs & 360 to use the router for a DHCP
address.
You
may need to look at your router settings to make sure its set to be a
DHCP
server...

got ya, now how do I change that? thanks
Dana Cline - MVP wrote:
The 360's IP address is "the IP address that the router is picking
up",
meaning the address the router gets from your service provider? A
normal
IP
address behind a router might start with 192.168.xxx.xxx, which
means
all
PCs on that router will have some variation of 192.168. If it has
any
other
address, the 360 is going directly to the internet rather than thru
the
router.

Hi Chris
The IP address on the xbox is the IP address that the router is
picking
up. Is that what you mean?
I checked the router and it has use router as DHCP server ticked.
Not sure on the last line about the LAN network. Im ok with tech
but
not the best.
Chris H. wrote:
Check the IP address of the Xbox 360 and the PC. It sounds like
one
is
receiving a public IP, while the other is part of the Local Area
Network.
Are you using DHCP from the router? You may be connecting via
the
360
to
Xbox Live without being a part of the LAN and therefore seeing
the
LAN-connected PC.

I have never had any trouble with Xbox Live from the start. As

I pugged the wireless adapter in, I was able to download

works.

The fact that this works on wired but not wireless
suggests
that
either
your router or your wireless adapter is dropping necessary
traffic.
Couple additional questions:
- Do you have more than one router? (i.e. is your PC
plugged
into
router
A, which is then wired to router B?) This is important
because
the
PC
and Xbox need to be on the same subnet
- Are you using the Xbox wireless adapter or a third-party
wireless
adapter?

The above is the DvcConn file after I tried the
following:
1) Wired the xbox to my router, entered the 8 digit key
and
voila
it
worked instantly with no problems
2) I then disconnected the ethernet cable
3) I then plugged in the wireless adapter and tried to
add a
new
connection because the xbox wouldnt reconnect
4) It would not connect at all - pasted the DvcConn file
below
called
Wireless connection
Hope that helps. Let me know if I have missed anything

know.
