Plenty of frustration out there on this point, see the item below and read
the full article via the link.
I still think that Microsoft should use some of those high priced attorneys
that they have left over from that little scrap with the Justice Department
and say screw you to the content providers and just make the damn box anyway
and defend it in court just like Sony defended the Betamax years ago. But the
present trend seems to be more Ballmer wanting to make nice with the studios
and refer to iPod users as thieves of music than really being the defender of
the end user and the consumer. Then again, hopefully the EFF will have more
success in this venture with regads to the broadcast flag.

Ahh, I see. While two of my TVs have component inputs, the only thing I have.
with component _outputs_ are one xBox 360 and one DVD player. Can you even
_get_ a video board with component outputs, or do you have to use a special
cable to get component from DVI or VGA?
It would be nice if MS would help fight the battle, but sadly they're as
much a pawn as we are. Basically this battle must be fought and won in
Congress, where us poor consumers are up against Hollywood special interests
(and their large campaign contributions). It's not an easy battle but
certain parts of it look more possible under the new Congress...

This is connected to an HDTVwith composite cables, there is no vga or dvi
on
the HDTV. I'm trying to setup MCI as the center piece to my entertainment
system, I think that's the real purpose of this O.S., but looks like I'm
restricted to moving it back to a basic computer setup. Sorry, but this
is
frustrating, all this copy right protection is going too far and I hope
Microsoft helps fight this battle and recognizes it's going to cut into
the
usefullness of it's product.

I guess I'm lost here...if DVI and VGA work fine, then why don't you use
them?

This is just outrages. The real point is, you spend up to or over
$1000
to
build a top of the line pc with MCE so you can access TV and generally
the
#1
thing, play DVD's, on an HDTV TV and guess what you can't unless you
drop
resolution to such poor quality. Then to rectify this you have to
purchase
another software spending yet more money $40 to maybe get it to work.
When
all you really need to do is purchase a DVD player for now under $100
bucks
to watch your movies on TV.
Uhm Microsoft has a major issue here. MCE won't get adopted by the
general
public for large entertainment systems with this kind of mess built in.
It
could end up as a pretty media player for standard computers because
it's
there by default when you purchase a computer instead of what Microsoft
really wants, which is to take us into a new Media age where your
entertainment system revolves around MCE and future builds. Come
on...no
one
saw this as an issue at Microsoft? Please!!!

I am trying to play commercial DVDs (e.g. Monsters Inc) using Windows
XP
Media Center Edition 2005 - the media center application. Works fine
with
VGA, but I get an error when using the component video output:
Cannot Play DVD
Media Center cannot play this DVD. The DVD may be in use by another
application or it may be copy-protected
When I try to play using the WinDVD, I press play, it says: "Please
close
WinDVD and change to non-TV Display device".
I have an ATI Radeon x700 card in a new Windows Media Center 2005 HP
Computer. I tried both a DVI-to-Video Component adapter, as well as
the
adapter cable that came with the card. Both cause the same results.
The
DVI
works fine, and the VGA works fine, but component output always gives
the
error message. I really need to use the component output with my
config,
as
no other inputs will be available.
I have tried HP support, but after 3 levels of escalation, the
response
is
"we will email you when we have a solution". Surely someone out there
has
encountered this problem & has a solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance.
