RE: Xbox 360 Extender install fails

Hi DaBeat:
I just remembered, my motherboard supports Intel's Viiv software, so I
have installed that on my pc. That may be where the Media Center Extender
Manager software came from. Maybe someone with a current MCE2005 O.S.
without the Viiv software can look and see if they have that option.

Hi DaBeat:.
The Media Center Extender Manager must have been included in one of my
updates. I wish I could tell you which one but I really don't know. I
figured when your software version was different than all three of my MCE2005
pcs that you were missing an update. Perhaps you could search for Media
Center Extender Manager with google or on the microsoft windows support site
and see if there is an update listed you don't have. Or possibly you may
need to remove and re-install one of the MC2005 updates. If you think it
would help, I may be able to copy and paste a list of all my updates from
the Windows Update site and you could see if you're missing one.

I don't have that option in my menu structure. I have start/all
programs/accessories/Media Center which has Media Center and a /Media Center
Progams directory but Media Center Extender Manager isn't listed in either
place. Do you know if that is a utility I can download? Is it supplied by an
OEM? I ask because I built this PC over a year ago.

Hi DaBeat:
Just checking.......did you try to connect to the xbox360 using the
"Media Center Extender Manager" in the start menu or did you try connecting
using the outdated instructions on the xbox360? You might try clicking
start/all programs/accessories/Media Center/Media Center Extender Manager and
click "File" then select "add new xbox360 if that's not the method you used.

There were no high priority or optional sofware updates available on
Microsoft Update. I went through the update history and noticed I had some
installation failures but they all had been successfully install later. No
Joy.
I wish I knew how the extender install routine was determining the OS
version(most likely a key).

Hi again DaBeat:
I'm sorry to hear that didn't solve your problem. Sometimes when you go
to update it updates your software with something that needs updating! LOL
I have
Windows Rights Management Client Backwards Compatibility SP2 and also
Windows Rights Management Client with Service Pack 2 showing in my add/remove
programs screen. Do you show both those updates? If not, try going back to
windows update and see if it wants to update your update! Also, did you
look over on the far left side of the update window and see if there were any
"optional software updates"? I have downloaded some media center updates
from there. I think it's more likely you're missing an update than having a
corrupted update. Be sure to re-start you computer before going into the
Media Center software to check the current version. Good luck!

There were no Media Center updates available to me on Microsoft Update. I
installed what was there (daylight saving time & right mgmt) but have the
same Media Center version and the same error. I am begining to expect that I
have some corruption in the registry and am contemplating reinstalling rollup
2. If anyone has a better idea I would like to hear it.
Thanx

Hi DaBeat:
I'm not sure if you have all the updates to MCE2005. My Media Center
software version reads 5.1.2715. 3011. Maybe you should go to "Windows
Update" and see if there are additional updates you may need. Select
"custom" updates and check to see if there are "optional" software updates in
addition to the priority updates.

I am trying to install the Xbox 360 Media Center Extender on my XP Media
Center Edition 2005 system and it fails with the error “Unsupported Operating
System”. I have Window Media Center Edition 2005, version 5.1.2715.2941 with
Rollup 2 installed. The network settings on the Xbox are good; the icon
appears in the task bar initiating the extender installation. It never asks
for the Xbox code. I have tried downloading the extender from the Xbox site
and it fails with the same error. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas
will be appreciated.
