Re: Has the Vista RC2 Decoder Expired?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

No need to convert your videos if they're MPEG-1/-2 - Xbox 360 supports
MPEG-1/-2 just like it always has.

More specifically, with Windows Vista or XP/Media Center 2005, the Extender
software on Xbox 360 plays MPEG-1, MPEG-2, WMV 7, WMV 8, WMV 9, WMV Image,
WMV Image 2, and VC-1.

Microsoft updated the Xbox 360 so it can ONLY use WMV video. Not that big
a
problem, I'll just have to convert all of the MPEGs to WMV using Movie
Maker.

AND THEN THEY JERK THE DECODER OUT FROM UNDER ME!

Good timing, Microsoft. Can anyone defend that for me?

Oh, don't worry about that...the other Extenders for Vista won't be out

How do you know its the decoder? The 360 has its own (thats why it can
play
DVD movies) and doesn't use the one in the PC. Can you watch recorded TV
on
your PC? Then its not the decoder...

I don't think its the decoder but rather some other subsystem for
Extenders, as the 360 has its own decoder. This is the first I've
heard about RC2 having this problem. I guess thats what we get for
being early adopters...

My Extender is fine but yes I can confirm that the RC2 decoder is
fubared... I have tried to set the NVIDIA one as default but to no
avail.

I don't want to have to buy another extender to watch TV for a few
months.
