If your CD drive is the top drive, that's the one it will boot. Swap the
cables and it will boot from the DVD

The most important thing for me is having Media Center I really liked it.
I
don't really care about the other Dell nonsense.

The Dell DVD is just a standard MCE2005 DVD without the need for
activation.
It won't restore the computer to factory fresh, as it contains no
applications.

You will have to use the Dell supplied recovery DVD, if you want the
computer back the way it came. You cannot use the DVD to add the MCE
functionality to an XP Pro installation. If the DVD isn't working for
you, please provide more details of why it isn't (errors during
install,
things that don't work and etc.). If the Restoration DVD itself is the
issue, request a replacement from Dell, or purchase MCE 2005 yourself
from
any of many online retailers. But I would stick with the more
reputable
ones to ensure you don't get a pirated CD key.

I installed a new hard drive in my xps and I wanted to install the
software
the same way it was when I got it. I have the (Dell) XP MCE reinstall
DVD
and
the Dell Resource CD that came with the system.
I tried to install using the Dell software(downloads from Dell as
well)
with no luck. I ended up installing my own version of xp pro, and was
able to
get the computer to work. I tried to use the Dell software to add the
MCE
modual etc. with no luck.
All I want is to have my system back the way it was new. Or at the
very
least have MCE back. I tried the Dell forum, no luck there. Any help
would be
great I'm at the end of my rope! Thanks
