Thanks for the information, but I think I am now having a BIGGER problem!
I had seen your solution on the internet before, and had attempted to do
that. However, I inadvertantly created a key under \WPA\MediaCenter called
"Installed" rather than the Dword value under \WPA\MediaCenter.
Once I did that, I am unable to delete the key or do any changes or deletes
to ANY entry in \WPA. I am getting an "Error while deleting key" message.
I have tried changing permissions without sucess. In fact, attempts at
renaming the \MediaCenter key have left me with even MORE keys that I can't
delete. Apparently the \WPA key has "special" permissions to it that I
haven't been able to figure out.
Bottom line is I still can't use Media Center, and I have a registry with
some un-deleteable keys in it.
If there is any suggestions you could offer, I would apprectiate it!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who ran into this issue. I was beginning
to wonder if I did something wrong during my System Restore! After
extensively searching the registry, I found just one key was missing. After
I entered this key and rebooted, everything was back to normal.
Check the following registry key and make sure that it's entered as follows:

If this key isn't in the registry, open Windows Notepad and paste the
following info:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\MediaCenter]
"Installed"=dword:00000001
Then, save the file as MCE2005Fix.reg, close Notepad, then double-click on
the file and select "Yes" to enter the key into the registry. Reboot, and
all should be fine. If this doesn't work, please let me know.

failure on my primary RAID array. Before the crash everything was working
just fine on my PC and I made a complete system backup using the Microsoft
Backup program in WinMCE 2005. All of my user files and settings are backed
up to another RAID array every night so I have all of my data (thankfully!).
I replaced all four of my Drive C array drives and upgraded to an Adaptec
4805SAS PCIe RAID Controller card. Then I used the Windows MCE 2005
installation CD to perform an Automated System Recovery. All went well... I

After successfully restoring my drive array (with no errors), the system
rebooted. Everything appreared back to normal, but then Windows asked to be
reactivated due to a substantial hardware change. I also had to re-activate
a few other programs like Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Office 2003. I was told
this happened because I put in a new RAID controller card and larger hard
drives, and also changed my RAID configuration from RAID 5 to RAID 10 so a
lot of the programs noted a major system hardware change and required
re-activation. Everything is working great now, but everytime I try to open
Media Center I get an error stating "Media Center only works on Windows XP
Media Center Edition".
I've checked my Event Viewer log for Application and System errors, but
there are none. No errors or warnings are listed since the system was
restored. The Media Center Extender Service, Media Center Receiver Service
and Media Center Scheduler Service are all "Started" and running. Nothing
else has changed on this system, but I can't figure out why Media Center
stopped working. I even compared all of the files in the C:\Windows\ehome
folder to another system that I have running WinMCE 2005 and all of the files
are the same (same date, size, etc.). I ran a CHKDSK to make sure nothing
was corrupted during the system restore, but no errors were found. I ran a
Microsoft Update and everything on my PC is current (all security patches,
service packs, etc.).
I'm now at a complete loss of what to try next. Everything else on the PC
is working just fine (I actually opened every single program I have installed
to verify that it was working correctly). I'd really like to avoid
re-installing the OS and all of my software and hardware drivers just because
of one program, but it seems pointless to have MCE installed and not being
able to use the Media Center application. Any ideas?
