Re: anyone up for a challenge? need help connecting xbox360 to mce 20

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Did you try methods 1, 2, and 5 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911123?
(including directly connecting your Xbox 360 to your PC using an Ethernet
cable).

Also, what anti-virus program do you have installed?

PLEASE HELP .. I FEEL I AM VERY CLOSE TO FIXING THIS....

I have tried multiple times to get the xbox 360 connected to the Media
Center PC.

I have gone through the step by step instructions from litheon's post.

Every time I do this, I end up with the black Media Center connecting
screen
followed by the following message:

Session Terminated .... Another user or application on the Windows Media
Center-based PC has disconnected this device.

The event log --> Applications shows the following error message :

Event Type: Error
Event Source: McrdWmp
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4107
Date: 1/3/2007
Time: 6:02:45 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MEDIACENTERPC
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 4107 ) in Source ( McrdWmp ) cannot be
found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to
use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support
for
details. The following information is part of the event: The wmplayer.exe
process did not shutdown properly and was terminated..

There is also a "Warning" message after that stating:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1517
Date: 1/3/2007
Time: 6:04:34 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: MEDIACENTERPC
Description:

service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by
the
user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it
is
no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try
configuring
the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

In addition, the Event Viewer --> System log shows:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 1/3/2007
Time: 6:02:46 AM
User: MEDIACENTERPC\MCX1

Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

permission
can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Despite these error messages, I am still able to access music and photos
through the media blade on the xbox 360. I do not see any of my videos
appearing though .. perhaps that takes longer to show up? However, if I
select "media center" on the media blade, I always get that black screen
(Media Center ... connecting) followed by the session terminated message
shown above.

My Event Viewer --> system shows (with each 'session terminated'):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: TermService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5700
Date: 1/3/2007
Time: 6:10:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MEDIACENTERPC
Description:
Remote Media Center session was logged off because system validation
failed.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

There should be a way to seamlessly access media center by selecting the
media center option, but I have not figured it out yet and would
appreciate
any help, including interpretiation of the above error message/warning.

Clearly my xbox sees the computer (to access the music and photos).

My system setup includes a wired connection between the xbox 360 and a
Belkin router (model F5D7230-4) and a wired connection from my router to
the
media center pc (HP m1270n). The necessary firewall ports on the router
are
open as indicated by microsoft. I have already reviewed the microsoft
"solution" for this error meassge without success, but figure that someone
on
this forum knows how to fix this.

I have an antivirus program that is provided by my ISP (Cox high speed
internet), but Cox says there are no compatibility issues between their
program suite and xbox.

I would be happy to offer up any other needed info, but would certainly
appreciate any assistance that could be offered to this novice.

Thanks.
