No, I think you missed my point. Beta means you will find bugs. This is one such. The timebomb was inadvertently left in the code for the final build of RC1, just like many other unintentional mistakes in the coding.

I think you have missed the point here.

RC1 does not expire until May 2007 so why does the Media Center portion of the system have functions that cease to be available BEFORE that date.

We are not talking about bugs, but deliberate function restrictions.

What part of BETA don't you understand? It is not Bostonian for "better". It means the software will have bugs. Microsoft clearly states that you use it at your own risk, and expense, including irretrievable data loss. If you continue, with full knowledge of this, then it is solely your responsibility for anything that happens.

If you are a system builder then you should have stopped working with RC1 when RC2 was made available. Continuing to develop systems, hardware, drivers and other software against an outdated beta version of the OS is of little value.

There can be no legitimate reason why an extension to the trial period
cannot be issued by Microsoft to us early adopters, beta testers and
technology providers which will IMMEDIATELY restore normal beta
operation to the Media Center components and bring parity to the stated
and accepted time-bombed limits of the overall Vista Beta and RC
evaluation and testing program.

I am a Microsoft System Builder and Intel Channel Partner, intent on
building, selling and servicing Vista in the Small Office and Home
Office marketplace in 2007. It is critical to my reseller business
this happens sooner, rather than later, especially after the hype and
opportunity teased and eluded us in 2006. The last four months here
have been filled formal and informal product sales & technical training
(free and fee-based) and untold hours of trials and errors installing,
reinstalling, discovering and resolving a variety of Vista
compatibility issues with real-world product. I am not complaining;
this is simply how R&D transpires in my world.

To suddenly and unexpectedly deny my business access to crucial
components of our test platforms and confound the development of our
much-anticipated 2007 product line is unthinkable. Here we sit, in the
last 30 to 60 days before being able to "go to market" with a reliable
and tested product line. This is NOT in keeping with the partnership
I've strived to build with Microsoft, having forsaken all others. Yes,
now I am complaining.
