Thanks again Barb,--
Yes, at least I think I have allowed the whole music library to index.
There about 6000 files of music. I let it run for a few hours in the
beginning. I may have had an issue with the new Vista load going to sleep.
The MCX1 user processes should keep it awake, though. I will double check
that.
I am having another problem, where the library as shown in the Media Center
front end includes files that are not in the watch list. I have deleted all
reference to my Media volume (m:\) and yet that whole volume appears in
videos and pictures. Ideally, just the pictures would be in pictures and
just the videos in videos.
Thanks,
Phil

Have you gone into music on the 360 and let it completely index your
music (and not done anything else until it is completed)?

Thanks for the timely response.
I have about 10,000 files in the media library. Do you (or anybody
listening) have that many? I am considering that maybe indexing all those
files for Xbox360 is given equal or higher priority than navigation. It also
appears they are indexed every time the Xbox360 establishes a session with
the Media PC. Can you comment on the size of your media library and
indexing, caching, etc.?
The problem is only with navigation. Video, even 1080p, plays without
little problem (no problem on 2005 MCE). With 2005 MCE, I can run easily run
three 1080p feeds from the hard drive array without any trouble. With MCE
2005 I can pull flawless HD content from the library while pegging both CPU
with the Windows Media Encoder (with an i/o stream out to the same array).
The PC scores 5.2 on Vista's performance benchmark.
Are there any Microsoft developers on this forum? Is there anyone who could
comment on differences between MCE 2005 and Vista x64 as far as which
processes are running and what they are doing and at what priority, etc.
I am open to the idea that it is a Vista driver for the RAID array, but I am
also troubled by the wmplayer.exe (launched when Xbox360 extender session)
running Virtualized. It sometimes takes 60% of the CPU bandwidtch, which is
ridiculous! That combined with poor prioritization could result in the lag I
am seeing.
So, I am just speculating, but it would help me to hear that you have a
library of equal size and are having no problems wiht that.
Thanks,
BratE

Hopefully Barb Bowman will respond, as I know she runs x64 and 360's in
various combinations...
I guess I better ask to clarify...you're seeing the lag between keystrokes
on the 360 (with remote keys), or on the Vista box while the 360 is in use
as an extender?

There is a substantial amount of lag when using the Xbox360 as an Extender
with Vista RC1 x64 build 5600. This delay is sometimes 30 seconds or so
between key strokes. They are connected via gigabit LAN. I noticed the
wmplayer.exe process running in 32-bit mode with virtualization.
The hardware has a dual boot with MCE 2005 and Vista RC1 x64 Build 5600.
There is a large dedicated volume (RAID array) for media. Both OS
partitions
draw media from this volume.
The MCE 2005 version works flawlessly.
