I've tried enabling/disabling everything possible ... even making the system
as unsecure as possible ... to no avail. But, perhaps I'm not hitting the
right combo or whatever.

FWIW ... this is one of two issues I'm facing in Vista RC2 (the other being
the lack of sound, despite properly installed drivers).

I've directly connected the 360 to the PC. I've connected it through my
router. I get the same error either way. It finds the Extender, but it
can't
configure it. I just get that same pesky error code.

My Xbox 360 sees the computer. And, my network actually sees it. If I
go
view my Network, it's right there ... Xbox 360 and Icon for the 360.
So,
I'm
doubting it's anything on the router end and there seems to possibly be
something improperly set on my computer itself.

It is a time like this when I wish someone could do that Dell thing and
go
through my computer to check my settings. I'm sure it's something not
set
right.

Yeah, I've done that ... in both cases the Vista is now seeing
the
360.
It's
much better than XP was doing (couldn't see it). But, when it
gets
to
the
configuring part ... it hangs:

"An error was encountered while configuring your computer"

So, I'm figuring some sort of Vista issue.

Now, I _did_ hook the 360 to the network first, and let

xbox live web site and download updates, so I knew the

360 to the network was good. You can cable the 360
_direct_
to
your
PC's
network port and try that...assuming that works, then
your
router
is
the
issue. If it fails, then it could be the 360 wired
network
port...have
you
tried the wireless yet?
