It's fixed!
I booted to Safe Mode Command Prompt and deleted
\windows\system32\wmvdmoe.dll.
I then booted to MCE normally.
No errors.
Media Player 10 and Media Center worked fine without wmvdmoe.dll, but I
wanted to make sure I had it in the \windows\system32 folder where it
belongs so I copied it in.
No errors.
Rebooted to MCE normally again.
No errors.
Upgraded to Media Player 11 (I had removed that earlier as a possible
fix.)
No errors.
Thanks again.

Seems like that is happening a lot with that old version of wmvdmoe.dll
You need to get an updated version of the dll and replace it. Here's a
link
to a newer version (v8.0.0.44778) -
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/W/wmvdmoe.dll/8.00.00.44778/download.html
Note that this file is hosted on a non-Mircosoft site, and I normally
wouldn't advocate downloading Microsoft files from a non-Microsoft
source,
but I don't know where else to get an updated version of this file.
Others have reported that this will fix this particular issue, so
hopefully
it works for you too.

I've got the same problem.
Mine cropped up the day after I installed WMP 11. The same night an
automatic update of my Windows Defender definitions occured.
I saw these posts and decided to revert back to WMP 10. This did no
good.
The error signature remains:
szAppName : ehrecvr.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2715.2773 szModName :
wmvdmoe.dll szModVer : 7.0.0.1917 offset : 00001d4f
Windows Defender signature updates are not removable, according to
their
web
site.
I am able to run Media Center OK, and as far as I can tell, the guide
is
up
to date.
Thanks
Ray

That version of wmvdmoe.dll you have listed there is pretty old (Media
Player 7 if I am not mistaken).
Try re-installing Media Player 10 to see if that helps

Hi;
I keep getting a warning. Media Center Receiver Service has
encountered
a
problem and needs to close.
Error signature
szAppName : ehrecvr.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2715.2941
szModName : wmvdmoe.dll szModVer : 7.0.0.1917
offset : 00001d4f
message.
Seems to have started after installing MCE rollup2
.
