Re: Anybody using a Linksys WMCE54AG Extender?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I don't plan on upgrading to Vista on my current machine. My feeling is
that the hardware is built for whatever OS is current at the time of
purchase. And I don't buy new machines with new OS's until the OS has been
around long enough for a service pack. Back to the Linsys extender.., Is
it possible to disconnect the wireless features? I prefer not sharing my
network with the other two apartments in my building.

FWIW...

Dell Dimension 9150 aka XPS/400

MCE 2005

Pentium D 3.20GHz

4 GB RAM

NEC 500 GB HD SATA

Seagate 400 GB HD (USB)

ATI Radeon 256Mb w/Digital Output (OEM)

Creative X-Fi Soundcard (Real)

Angel PCI Dual TV Tuner

Sony CD RW 48x IDE

NEC DVD Dual Layer +/-16x SATA

Dell 2007FPW 20.1" Widescreen Monitor (Digital)

Dell 5.1 Speakers

Linksys BEFSX41Broadband Firewall Router

also a modem and a floppy drive.

I used it until I started beta testing Vista at RC2. Works great with MCE
2005. But if you do plan to upgrade to Vista, skip the Linksys and get an
XBox 360. The Linksys unit isn't compatible with Vista and won't be. Or
you can wait a while longer for the v2 extender devices to come out and see
what form factors are offered and at what price.

I have a Broadband Linksys Router that I am very pleased with. (excellent
firewall). I use RJ45 Ethernet cables throughout my network (3 PC's) and
I would be hooking up the extender with an ethernet cable even though I
realize that it is compatible with 802.11a;b;g. Is anybody using this
extender? I have heard both good and bad things but it seems that the
'bad things' were mostly because of wireless issues. If I hear good news
here, I will get one.
