This does work in-so-far-as I can rename the files in Windows Explorer.

However upon view the files in Windows MediaCenter the files are still
listed with their default file names e.g. "Manual Recording 12-11-06 19:23",
which defeats the procedure of renaming the files in Windows Explorer!

You'd do it in Windows Explorer.

By default (assuming Windows XP MCE is installed to the C:\), your files
will be in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Recorded TV

If you changed the recording drive within MCE, then your files will be in
<Drive Letter>:\Recorded TV

If you're talking about renaming the files within Windows Explorer what
pathway are the TV programmes saved under?

You just rename them like any other file in Windows.

Right click the file and select rename, and type in the new file name...
or select the file, press F2 and type in a new file name..

All I won't to know how to do is to change the file name so that I know
what recordings I have. This procedure is not covered.

You can change the filename after the file has been recorded. Media
Center won't care (as it reads the metadata for any fields that it
needs)

Now, if you want to change the metadata, there is a way to do that
too...

can't find how to do it.

It would be nicer to be able to rename a recorded TV program rather
than put up with the default title of the date and time the recording
was done.
