Re: Schedule dual tuners

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

It appears the networks are playing games, but when a network changes air
times or length of a program the guide normally catches up with the change
the following week. When the guide reflects the change off the standard 1/2
hr. is when it really start to mess with DVRs with one or two tuners, it's a
constant series of conflicts between shows. I've got four digital tuners so
they got to try harder to foul my scheduled recording. On Sundays I always
schedule the news to record to compensate for the games constantly running
over.

A real time guide would help some while angering others and as far as I've
seen real time isn't available yet for any DVR.

I heard (another thread) that the networks try to frak each other (really
their customers/public) by extending the length of a show by 1 minute
(say,
61 minutes, rather than 60). The other network countered the next week by
making their show 62. Counter-Counter: 70 minutes.

What I don't understand about these tuner cards is what is the problem?

I'm guessing lack of clock sync (time tuner uses vs. time shown on guide
vs.
time shows actually start/stop).

This kind of self defeating fraking each other is stupid (ask WB & UPN
networks). Hit shows should stagger, and have 2nd or 3rd offerings, just
so
someone can record one show, and the competing using the alternate. (If
I'm
making sense).

Ok, then please explain what I read in another thread. Say a football
game
goes way over it's scheduled time (As CBS does every Sunday--putting the
rest
of their schedule a half hour behind for the whole night. If I use the
guide
to schedule Cold Case to be recorded. Will MCE know that it is late and
still
record it? And if I scheduled the program after Cold Case too. Would that
also record? ( I'm talking one tuner now cuz that's all I have. I intend
to
get a dual tuner card. From what you're saying is that MCE will schedule
the
tuners automatically in a dual tuner setup? I tried to record Die Another
Day
(3 hours) It recorded all 3 hours and 57 minutes of it????? I KNOW the
movie
really didn't run that long, but that's what it said. MCE started acting
funny after 2 hrs 51 mins (Stopped playback every 12 seconds) I installed
the
AMD Dual core Driver and I recorded a 1 hour program last night and got
exactly 1 hour. Previously it was maybe 68 mins or more. In those cases,
the
DVD I created shut down completely on my standalone player and the file
stalled every 12 seconds in Media Center. I haven't tried to record a
longer
program yet. but hopefully the driver installation solved those problems.

Recordings would continue until the stop time.

If you have one tuner, and the stop time doesn't overlap with the start
time, the same tuner would be used to record both shows. If they
overlap,
either i) it will use the next available tuner to record the show, or
ii) it
will not be able to record the show if there are no tuners available.

How does MCE differentiate which tuner is scheduled for which TV show
to
record? I.E. how does one schedule a program that is supposed to
start at
the
same time as another program ends (on different channels). I take it
that
the
recording doesn't stop until the first program is actually finished?
I
sure
wish there was an adequate user guide. The one I have is terribly
inadequate.
