I have media center edition of xp and i record many shows onto an external fire wire hd. recently the hd has been ejecting itself randomly when watching a show or movie. the video will freeze and i hear the "bing bong" noise. it also ejects itself when i am not watching a shows ometimes it comes back sometimes i have to turn it off and then back on. why wont the drive stay in my computer it is very frustrating . i cant do anything. it was purchased this spring so it is fairly new. i keep it and the computer on basically all the time. please help i basicly cant use media center becasue it freezes so much!
Possibilities:
1. Bad FireWire cable (or maybe not securely plugged in).
2. Inadequate power.
The first can be tested with a second cable, borrowed from a friend if you're lucky.
The second is not very likely, but if your drive is powered over the FireWire cable, you might try using a wallwart DC power supply. i.e., a brick that plugs into the AC socket and provides power to a DC power jack on the drive enclosure.
