Do you have any other USB devices to use as a check to see if the USB
drivers are installed and working properly. It sounds like a possible USB2
problem. Do you have OpenHCD Host Controllers shown in device manager under
Universal Serial Bus Controllers? Possibly try an uninstall of all USB
drivers then reboot and let them reinstall. Then hook up the receiver to see
if is recognized. Try at your own risk, shouldn't cause a problem, but might
require complete replacement of the drivers.

I got a manual from an HP online chat session that described the fix you

not
listed I attempted to do as the manual suggested but after doing this I
still
had no ehome infrared receiver showing up under USB controllers??
what else can I do to get ehome infrared receiver to show up?
any further ideas wd be much apprec

1.Select Start, right-click My Computer, and then select Properties.
2.Select the Hardware tab > Device Manager.
3.Select the plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
4.If eHome Infrared Receiver is listed under Universal Serial Bus
controllers, Windows is properly detecting the IR receiver. If it is not
listed, go to the next step.
5.Plug the end of the TV tuner USB cable into a different USB port on the
notebook.
6.Disconnect all other USB devices, leave the TV tuner plugged in, and
then
restart the notebook. Plug in other USB devices after the TV tuner
appears
in Device Manager.
