I am also having the same problem. Where do you disable the PICvideo V2
codec? Do you know why suddenly this is creating a problem when before it was
not?

In my case it turned out that Pinnacle Studio 9 that was causing the problems.
Certain AVI & Mpeg files (MPEG2 and over) all worked fine but when I
installed Studio these files would activate DEP when you tried to open them
(when using Win Explorer to open these files). MPEG1 files still worked fine
though. When I uninstalled Studio everything was fine again.
Although I've worked this out, I'm not sure what my next step should be as
the version of Studio I have is the very latest and there are no more updates
available to download from Pinnacle.

One of your avi codecs is probably out of date, and causing the DEP errors
when it is being triggered in the thumbnailing proces.

have to do is open a folder that has the AVI file inside it and Windows

explore closes. I have uninstalled all of the above one at a time and

reinstalled afterwards and after each was removed, there was no change.

say what 'type' of AVI file specifically is causing the DEP error) is out

date.
Typically, getting an updated version of the codec (whichever one is the
offending codec) will fix your issue. (divx needed an update, others did
too)

I am having issues related to (.AVI) files with relationship to the file

The problem is as follows: I will open the file Explore to view the
files
on my hard-drive. If I open a folder that contains (.AVI) files or if
I
can
manage to get lucky and highlight an (.AVI) file, I receive a Data
Execution
Prevention Error (DEP) and the file Explore closes. The strange thing
is
that if I open any Media Player program and run the (.AVI) files from
within
the Media Player program (ie: Windows Media Player 11, Pinnacle Studio
Video,
Real Time, etc.), things work properly and I have no issues or crashes.
The
basic problem is that I cannot click on and rename, delete, move or
click
and
play any (.AVI) files from within the file Explore screen.

I am unsure of what is actually happening here to cause this other than
a
flaw in the Windows XP Data Execution Prevention Error (DEP) code. I
have
attempted the following to correct my problem:
- Windows XP has always been from day one kept up to date with all
Service
Packs and Updates.
- Scanned the Disk for Errors - (No errors found)
- Performed a Disk Clean Up
- Performed a Disk Defragmentation
- Run McAfee Virus Scan - (No issues found)
- Updated Microsoft Media Play Ver-10 to Ver-11
- Uninstalled Pinnacle Video Software
- Uninstalled Real Time Player
- Reinstalled Pinnacle Video Software & All Updates
- Reinstalled Real Time Player & All Updates
I am at a total loss and getting annoyed that this problem exists and I
cannot correct it. Can you please help me to resolve this issue
without
having to disable the Data Execution Prevention Error (DEP) feature in
Windows XP?
