Re: IIS 5.1 with MCE 2005?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have successfully installed IIS on many, many different installations of MCE 2005. Granted, none of mine are OEM installs.

I have read most of the posts in this forum and in the IIS forum. Clearly,
other developers are experiencing the same problems I have.

Can IIS 5.1 be installed and configured to work with MCE 2005? In the IIS
forum you will find my 11/14/2006 post with responses from David Wang and
Bernard Chehr, MVPs. We finally concluded that some OEM's (HP, Dell, others)
might disable features (like IIS) that their non-business customers don't
use. HP denies any such disablement.

I spent two weeks in hell trying to get /localhost recognized by my web apps
on a new HP computer with MCE 2005 pre-installed. You'll see that I had
several on-line chat sessions with HP tech support. "Yes, it will work...."
"No, it will not work according to my supervisor ... ", and, lastly, "I have
referred your problem to our R&D unit."
Because the concensus seems to be "Yes, it can work ...", I am about to take
the plunge again. I will take one more shot with HP. (I restored my new
machine to its original state and returned it before the 14-day limit expired
-- am now working solely on a laptop -- not good for VS .NET, SQL Server,
Office 2007 beta, web apps, etc..)
Last time, the first thing I did was install IIS (Add/Remove, Windows
Components) which went flawlessly, From there it was all down hill starting
with the all-inclusive Error 500 ("can't find the server or something's wrong
with the page you're seeking").
So, I am crossing my fingers that I can get it to work. But before I
venture forth I'd like to know if there is any documentation anywhere that
says what to do, how to do it, and in what order?
My sense of things after living with KB articles, these forums, IIS
properties, and Event Log/Viewer for 14 days is that the order in which I do
things is very important.
