But actually, It sounds like your MB/BIOS is tied to a specific OS, not the
other way around.
MCE will run fine on any old MB that will run any other XP variant; I know
because I loaded on numerous systems with no trouble. Your MB however has a
feature designed specifically for MCE and causes errors when another system
is loaded.

Oh.. I wanted to specifically address this...
I've read your comments about 'tied to the motherboard', but you still
have not explained, at least to my understanding, why it was a "royal
pain in the ass". So there is one feature Pro doesn't support. So what.
Did it add hours to your install time? Cause an unstable system? Cause
the northern lights to go out?
No, Northern Lights are fine. The PITA was primarily beating one's head
against the wall researching the various anomalies created by the OS
change where features were supported by the BIOS but not the OS. Since
errors and/or non-functioning buttons often result, you wind up having to
dig-in and learn about each of them to finally find out that maybe they
are not important. But, yes, this does in fact take time. And
experimentation.
I would also like to add, if you are the type who never reads the Windows
Event Log, none of this really matters much - LOL!
