Hi everyone,
First off, the HD20 was set to IR (infrared) anyway, but that was not the
problem. By using a little leap of deductive reasoning in reading all the
posts and the guides on GreenButton, I figured out what the problem was and
what the solution is.
Most of the things I read had to do with people who had STBs that had a some
sort of plastic cover that was over the actual IR sensor. A lot of the posts
suggested that they have to shine a flashlight into the plastic cover to find
where the sensor is located to figure out where ON TOP of the cover to
position the IR bug.
Well, on the HD20 STB unit, there is NO cover. It is just a flat surface
and the IR sensor is straight out there with nothing covering it.
That got me thinking: What if the IR Blaster was being TOO powerful because
I placed it right on top of the sensor and its signal was overloading the
sensor?
So I just removed it from on top of the sensor and positioned it about an
inch or so directly in front of the sensor using a piece of tape to hold it.
YEP, WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
Damm - all that effort and the solution was something dumb like that! And
this is the 21st Century?
Man!
- Thanks anyway guys!

Howard does the HD20 have IR and RF, if so go to the menu setting on the HD20.
and set to IR.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. Yes - I rechecked and both the remote and the IR
Blaster are all official real Microsoft hardware.
- Thanks.

Hi,
I have a Hauppage 500 card in my system and I also have the DirecTV HD20
STB. I cannot get the IR Blaster and the remote to recognize anything. I
would go though the learning process and also I went through all of the
stored key codes for a DirecTV box and it still cannot get it to even
change
the channel or do ANYTHING. It does absolutley nothing when I enter in
the
channel number either using the remote or using the keyboard.
I can see the IR blaster's little bug you stick on top of the area on
sensor
of the STB flashing when I enter in a command, but nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong? I have tried this about 20 different ways already
and
I don't want to give up after spending so much money on building this
system.
Any ideas?
- Thanks
Just to make sure, you have the real MCE remote and blaster, correct? Not
all models of the PVR-500 come with it.
