Re: MCE vs XP Professional

You're right. There is no MS side-by-side comparison, as with other
editions. You're on your own. I'm sure you have already read all that is
available on the subject or you wouldn't have phrased your question this
way. So, I won't comment any more on that.

However, I will say that I personally wish they never came up with "Media
Center Edition". It's way to confusing, tied too closely to hardware
(including motherboad BIOS! - did you know that!). I think it's just stupid.
All they needed was a box on the shelf with the Media Center Application in
it along with "minimum requirements" listed on the box. Sure would avoid a
lot of confusion.

I personally think (yeah, I know I may be in the minority) that MS is kinda
shooting itself in the foot with too many product editions where the public
cannot understand the difference. I thought the reason they went to a
different name for server verses client OSs a while back was to help clear
up that sort of confusion. I think MCE just exacerbates the problem further.

Looking for a side by side comparison of the subject line. With a growing
business I have a home network already set up with two desk tops and two
lap
tops. In the market to buy a new laptop. I travel and on ocassion need to
connect to my home network. Most of laptops seem to come with MCE.

Been to
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.mspx
Only compares XP home and XP Pro
and
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/compare.mspx
no side by side (that I could find)

Thanks
