Re: Linksys Media Center Extender won't connect

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Ok, I fixed it and wanted to post the for the archives:

I remembered how Remote Desktop had stopped working when I installed my
Netgear wireless card. I rarely used it, so I didn't think much of it.
A couple months later, this was my problem with the extender (as it
seems to run some variant of remote desktop to get MCE on the screen).

On my MCE PC, the Netgear wireless card's driver installation had
pointed XP away from msGINA.dll and pointed it at Netgear's own
mrvGINA.dll (what's in a name?), which kills remote desktop. I
changed it in the registry to point back to msGINA.dll, and remote
desktop started working.

Then I plugged in the extender and prepared for one last setup/install
cycle. While I was pulling out the CD, the extender had connected on
its own (from the last setup), and was working fine

I did a brief search in this ng, but didn't see anyone having my exact
problem.

I have set up my WMCE54AG, connected it to the wireless network, and
the Media Center PC says network performance is acceptable. Every
indication from the PC is that the connection is just fine.

The extender just remains at the "Connecting to Media Center PC..."
screen and never connects.

I have reset the extender (blue flashing LED), and re-set everything
up. I've rebooted my Media Center PC, and even uninstalled and
reinstalled my Media Extender software on the Media Center PC.

Still, when the setup is done, the extender just sits at the
"Connecting to Media Center PC..." screen.

My Media Center PC is connected to my router via DS2 powerline
adaptors, and my extender is connected wirelessly. My router is a
Netgear WGR614 V6 running g only (not b).

Any help is greatly appreciated.
