Re: DVD not readable in DVD Player

I read a bit to fast ,sorry about that. the burner came with the computer,
gateway-which is a xp media center. the only thing that I have done with the
burner is use it for back ups of my genealogy research. now I want to put
music to what photos I have. I have backed up all my photos so that part of
the burner works, it has no problem backing up my research and the photos,
just this part of doing the dvd.
I tried it with the nero and had no success so I thought I would try with
the media center. first disc worked but that was a test. I was able to erase
that disc and start over seeing how I have it figured out to make me happy
but all the rest of the brand new disc won't work? they are unreadable. like
I had stated earlier, looking in the properties of the burner, the disc is
reading unknown with the one that works reads raw. so that almost tells me
something isn't configured? I also get a message when I do put the disc that
is completed in the drive- " decoder error video decoder has either,
malfunctioned or is not installed"
unless I put the disc in the wrong drive, I put it in the same drive I used
to make the dvd-it works on the tv. the media center is not hooked up to the
tv.
thanks.

two of the 5 work? maybe I am saying that wrong. I put the disc in, then I
bring up the media center and then I go to my pictures, then I creatve
cd/dvd-the first time it worked, okay, figured out how to do it, went to do a
better job, nope that one didn't work, I put in one more and that one worked.
discs are just fine. seeing how I am able to use the CD-RW for back ups of
other things the burner does work so I can no say it is the burner-drive or
whatever one needs to say for a technical name, the point is, it works. have
no problems with the CD's. having 5 new disc, never been used, just opened
up we find it real hard to believe that 2 out of the 5 are use able. one of
the two that work, I only put on photo on it to test it and I put it back in
to finish it and got the message that it was full. that is nonscense
actually. there has to be a setting wrong or something.
it is no formated correctly or something.
thanks

You'll probably have much better luck with just the -R discs...I've heard of
issues with the -RW ones occasionally. Also, if you're making a video DVD,
the -RWs probably won't work on most standalone dvd players.

Take a look at the one problem disc - are there any blemishes in the media,
or dust or scratches? What brand of DVD burner do you have?

I am hoping someone can help me with my question. have a brand new package
of
dvd-rw. I want to put my family pictures with music on them. I was able to
do
one which was more of a test. I put another one in from same package and I
got a message saying "please insert writeable media that is compatible
with
your cd or dvd recorder and then select retry". this package was of 5
dvd's.
I took a third and tried that and that one worked. I tried the 2nd one
again
and got the same message, when I went to properties of the drive-it was
reading "unknown". seeing how the first one was a test, I erased the disc
and went to redo what I wanted to do and I couldn't get it to work at all.
the drive works just fine with the CD-rw's and CD-R why the trouble with
the
dvd's?
the book states to use DVD-R or DVD-RW's some work some don't and they are
from the same package.
thank you

Ok, for once I followed the directions and even chose "Video DVD" instead
of
"Data DVD." When I put the DVD in the normal DVD Player...it say there
is
"no disk?" I am using a DVD-ReWritable disc...does that make a
difference?

Thanks,
Trey
