Play DVDs on an extender

I noticed on my MCE 2005 that there is an option on the startup screen of
"Play DVD". This option does not show up on extenders. Is it not possible to
play a DVD through the network from the MCE box to an extender? I was hoping
to not have to hook up a DVD player by the extender. And, if it is not
possible, Why don't they put DVD players in the extenders (The Xbox 360 has
a DVD player and it is great). One less device in the entertainment center.
