thanks for taking the time to try and help actually they switched out the
whole board and the original was nicer with nvidia installed i could control
things like dual displays and colors specific for each also media center
would appear on tv display in full screen while in customized size on
notebook allowing me to do other things at same time as viewing a movie from
the notebook on the tv display... they replaced since i was having a video
error problem, the whole board so i cant install different or original
drivers till they replace it back to original... it is under warranty until
sept 2007 as i bought warranty but when i called hp after they "fixed" it
they now had a new serial number assigned to this computer causing even more
hassels of getting them to understand what a mess they made of my notebook...
but in any event i am thinking that there is some code involved or tagged to
my original recordings using media center 2004 which is what i have not 2005,
that the media center version installed with new board and video is all
mixed up and is preventing me from further viewing of my own personal
recordings because the new version of my computer does not recorgnize the
recordings actually came from the same computer and wont let me play them
since it thinks it is a different computer... is there some way that i can
change some code to allow me to view these recordings? they are not
protected and state such but still system thinks that they are trying to be
viewed on a different computer... pleeeeeeze help

Sounds like HP bolluxed it up pretty bad. Well, first thing I'd do is
download the latest video drivers for your video adapter. Since this is a
notebook, I'm a bit surprised you saying they switched from ATI to
nVidia...normally that's built into the motherboard and you don't just
switch them out.

In any case, you need MCE drivers specific to your notebook model, which I'd
assume you find on the HP web site. You may also need motherboard drivers,
if they replaced that. What you really need to do first is determine exactly
what HP replaced, and why. Then get in touch with them and let them know
their repairs left your system unusable. I'm not confident they'd bother
doing anything since the system is two years old and it's been months since
that last fix.

If it were me, I'd buy a copy of 2005 and just install everything from
scratch. But that's just me...

Can you play any shows you've recorded _since_ the repairs? I'm wondering
if
they hosed your DVD decoder software. Can you tell us exactly what
happens
when you attempt to play one of these old recordings? Can you also try in
Media Player?
