Re: Hibernation

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I have had the Power Options set as you describe. However I had not tried the
Sleep button on the Keyboard. It does go into Hibernation rather than
Standby. I left the PC in Hibernation tonight and will see if it starts up by
it's self.
Last night I hibernated in the normal fashion using Start, Shutdown,
Hibernation and the PC came back on this morning. The System Event log for
this morning when it started up gave an Event ID - 8033
Event_ Browser_Election_ Sent_ Lanman_NT_ Stopper
Message: The Browser has forced an election on the network %1 because a
master browser was stopped
Explanation: The network must have a master browser

I will see what happens tomorrow and will report back.

Do the following:-
Open Control Panel>Power Options>Click Hibernate and be sure that it's
enabled. Now click the Advanced tab > Select Hibernate from the drop down
menu under the option-'When I press the sleep button on my
computer'>Click Apply/OK.

I can't reproduce the problem!! When I am in the Media Center and go to
shutdown within the Center it now shutdown normally. The Hibernation option
is no longer present. I have received several MS Updates since I last was
able to produce the problem. I did review the Event Viewer and checked all
the first entry for each startup.
The normal startups appear to give a Event Id of 6009 however on other days
I received:
*** Event ID 8021 on 10/3, 10/4 and 10/11
8033 on 10/2, 10/14 and 10/22
4201 on 9/27. 9/28, 10/6 and 10/10
I don't know what I did to start the Hibernation on shutdown but right now
there is no way that I know of to go into Hiberation from the Media Center
shutdown menu. I would prefer this to the Standby option. Any help would be
appreciated.

I am using Media Center Edition 2005 and a Microsoft remote keyboard that
uses Enchanced Host Controller interface. I have the media Center setup to go
into Hiberanation on a Power Off from the Media display. It hibernations for
a few hours to almost 24 hours then turns itself automatically back. If I do
a shutdown from the Start, Shutdown menu it turns off and stays off. I
disconnected all external devices and disconnect the antenna to the Wireless
Adapter and it still starts up automatically. All patches are current. The
Knowledge Base said this problem was corrected with SP2, well I have SP2.
This would be a good feature if there was a way to control when in turns on.
This a home built system.
