I am not even finished paying for a Gateway GM5048 purchased from BestBuy
and
have already had it back for servicing once. That time was a lost
tunercard.
(I did purchase the 4 year in home warranty, but the wait time for a tech

weeks). Now I have gotten the blue screen of death and I have lost the
ability to play back Digital Video recordings from the family camcorder

reading the threads reveals I have have the oldest known version of MCE
known to mankind. MCE version2002 SP2.

My question is: Should I take this box back, demand a version current
with
the purchase date, or attempt to do whatever it takes to bring this
version
up to speed?

As there is no product "MCE version2002 SP2" I suspect you are looking at
System Properties and seeing your Windows XP version information.

To see your Media Center Edition version start Media Center and click
Settings> General> About Media Center> Software Version. It is highly
unlikely that you got a new computer with an old version of Media Center.

Without knowing anything about your system, it's hardware or the error
messages you're receiving it would be difficult to speculate on solutions to
your problem.

If the problem is new consider using System Restore to a point prior to the
inception of the problem.
