RE: Video Playback Freezes / Choppy MCE 2005

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Richard,

Let me say thanks again for your assistance. WMPlayer and MCE are using the
same Decoder if that's what you're asking. Also, I have not checked Live TV.
I have this on my work bench so I'll have to get a signal to it and test
that. I'm using currently recordings that I made before I clean installed.

I'll update ASAP, may be tomorrow.

I've been plagued sometime now with this issue. I've build a new Media
Center, AMD Athlon 64 AM2 Dual Core 4400+
2gb Ram
ATI Radeon x1300 (prev x800, I upgraded to try to fix)
Soundblaster AudigySE (prev Onboard Snd, upgraded to try to fix)
Hauppauge PVR-500MCE Dual Tuner
40GB Ide OS Drive & 320Gb Sata TV/Data Drive (prev single drive 320gb Sata,
upgraded to try to fix)
WinDVD Decoder (prev nVidia Decoder, changed to try to fix)

When I playback recorded TV in WinMCE, it runs smooth for about 20+ seconds
and then quickly goes choppy, then freezes. CPU Utilization on ehshell.exe
goes from 40+ down to 0 when this happens.

I am now on my second clean install of WinXPMCE, all of the hardware appears
to be approved. The decoder change didn't make a bit of difference. I
installed a new AMD CPU Driver, that didn't make a difference. When the
freezing occurs, it will make a little movement, and a bit on sound output
here and there, but no full motion. Also as I stated the CPU Util is 0 on
ehshell.exe and no other process shows significant usage. In fact most of
the time System Idle sits at 99%.

When I play the recorded TV in Win Media player however, it's plays fine.
Never seems to freeze or even stutter.

I'm going crazy here.. I've done memory tests using Memtest86 for hours with
no errors reported, changed the video card, changed the audio card, changed
the decoder, I got a replacement mobo through warranty. Nothing changes.

Thanks in advance,

Andy
